PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium – Commissioning

A new carbon testing equipment, Air Reactivity Anode (RDC-151) with 3 furnaces, has been successfully installed and commissioned at PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium in Indonesia. This is the 2nd Air Reactivity Apparatus installed in Inalum’s laboratory to test Air Reactivity of Anodes. By increasing the number of equipment, respectively the number of furnaces, Inalum can perform more analyses of sample cores to have a representative overview of its anode quality.

During electrolysis, air at the anode can trigger burning reactions, leading to higher anode consumption, carbon dusting, and reduced current efficiency. To mitigate these performance issues, it is crucial to produce anodes with minimal CO₂ reactivity. The RDC‑151 apparatus provide standardized testing of air reactivity through controlled heating, cooling, ensuring reliable measurement of residue, dust, and loss.

We would like to express our gratitude to PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium for their confidence and are looking forward to many more years of partnership to guarantee the highest quality production operations.
